Vetting costs

The request was successful.

Dear Defence Vetting Agency,

What are the minimum costs to vet someone to SC and DV levels respectively?

Furthermore, in respect of contractors being submitted for said clearance, who bears the cost of that vetting? The government or the client?

Yours faithfully,

M Lucas

Dear Defence Vetting Agency,

I understand that by law you are required to reply to my request at the latest by (in this case) 5th July 2010, at the very least to provide me with a reason for not having answered my request under the FOI Act.

If you have not provided me with the information I require within a further 7 days, then I will request an internal review (Mon 12th July).

Yours faithfully,

M Lucas

DVA-CE-SECRETARIAT (McIntyre, Patrick C2),

Mr Lucas, I have your email of 7 June to the MOD about minimum vetting
costs.  Please accept my apologies for the delay in relying which has
resulted in our missing the deadline.  This was because the request was
not passed through when first received.

The minimum cost for an SC is £49 and the minimum cost for a DV is
£761.  Both costs exclude VAT but include the costs of the DVA work to
produce the vetting recommendation.

Contractor costs are carried by the appropriate department who may pass
charges on to the contractor in accordance with Treasury guidance in
Managing Public Money, as appropriate.

I hope this is helpful.  If you are dissatisfied with this decision or
wish to complain about any aspect of the handling of this request, then
you should contact the undersigned in the first instance.  Should you
remain dissatisfied, then you may apply for an internal review by
contacting the Director of Information Exploitation, 6th Floor, MOD Main
Building, Whitehall, SW1A 2HB.  Please note that any request for an
internal review must be made within two calendar months of the date on
which the attempt to reach informal resolution has come to an end.

If you are still unhappy following an internal review, you may take your
complaint to the Information Commissioner under the provisions of Section
50 of the Freedom of Information Act.  Please note that the Information
Commissioner will not investigate your case until the MOD internal review
process has been completed.  Further details of the role and powers of
the Information Commissioner can be found on the Commissioner's website,
