Verification of figures used in a public statement
Dear Her Majesty’s Treasury,
In Parliamentary Written Question 198777 ʺhow many (a) doctors and (b) nurses will be subject to the 2019 Loan Chargeʺ Mel Stride answered that ʺHMRC data indicates that fewer than 3% of those affected work in medical services (doctors and nurses) and teachingʺ

1) Did the source of the HMRC figures used in the answer indicate that the figures are estimates?
2) Did the source of the HMRC figures used in the answer indicate any degree of accuracy?
3) Please detail any verification methods used by the Treasury to verify both the figures and the methodology used by HMRC to calculate them.
Yours faithfully,
Mr J Molyneux

Dear FOI Requests,
Thank you for your response confirming that HM Treasury holds some of the information within the scope of my request and HM Treasury does not verify the figures provided by HMRC.
My original question was based on the expectation of HM Treasury having direct communications with HMRC and not being dependent on the publicly released information at https://www.gov.uk/government/publicatio... where there is no explicit indication of the level of accuracy of any estimated figures.
Can HM Treasury confirm that the answer to Parliamentary Written Question 198777 was solely based on the link above and no further data or metadata was provided by HMRC to answer the question?
Yours sincerely,
John Molyneux
