Dear Simon,

Thank you for your enquiry to CCC recorded below which has been forwarded
to me.  Your request has been handled under normal business practices and
not in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act/Environmental
Information Regulations.

Having investigated this enquiry, from the data available to me I can
advise at the above location, date and time the speed limit was raised
from 40mph to 50mph at 16:48 until 18:15, then lowered to 40mph again.

Our records are kept for operational purposes and should be considered for
information only; they contain recommended speed limits for the motorway,
they do not represent the times at which the signs changed or that the
recommended speed limit was adopted by the motorway signals.

Enforcement of speed restrictions is the responsibility of the police.
The speed enforcement system on our smart motorways generates a photo
showing the speed limit displayed on the enforcement gantry at the exact
time of the alleged offence and which should be obtainable from the
police.

If you have any queries about this response, please would you only contact
our Customer Contact Centre, quoting reference number 21567437.

Yours sincerely
