Dear The British Library,

I would like to know:

1.The number of books owned by the British Library have been recorded as being vandalised in any way, under your own definition of vandalism (e.g. writing in pen on the pages), for the period 1st November 2009-present day, or the last 36 month period available

2.The number of incidents that have been recorded by the British Library as having taken place within the British Library grounds or buildings, which have required either ejection of person(s) from the library, or a ban on person(s) being able to enter/access the library in future.

If possible, I would like to know what these incidents were (e.g. vandalism of books, etc), for the period 1st November 2009-present day, or the last 36 month period available

3. The titles and authors of the British Library’s top 5 most requested books from its stacks, for the date period from 1st November 2006 to 1st November 2012.

I would prefer to receive this information electronically, preferably as a data set, eg. in Excel, not as a PDF.

If the decision is made to withhold some of this data using exemptions in the Data Protection Act, please inform me of that fact and cite the exemptions used.

If some parts of this request are easier to answer than others, I would ask that you release the data that IS available as soon as possible.

If some of this information is already available in the public domain then I would appreciate a link or direction as to where I can find it.

If you need any clarification then please do not hesitate to contact me. Under Section 16 it is your duty to provide advice and assistance and so I would expect you to contact me as soon as possible if you find this request unmanageable in any way.

Yours faithfully,

Hannah Thompson
