The request was partially successful.

I would like to request the copies of any UK ambassadors' valedictory dispatches or first impressions' dispatches from the years 1990 to 2006 from the Netherlands and Republic of Ireland.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Foreign and Commonwealth Office,

Thanks for your reply. Yes I could confirm that the request you've quoted above is the one I'd made.

Dear Mr Smith,

Thank you for your email to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO)
requesting information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

In order for us to be able to assist you with your request and best direct
any search can you please refine the scope of your request.

As currently drafted your request is too broad and burdensome under the
FOIA and we would be unable to proceed with it.

Would it be possible for you to refine your request and specify a shorter
time frame? For example a 5 year period within the period 1990-2006 for
the correspondence you are seeking?

Once we receive your revised request we will consider it and the
appropriate course of action.

Yours sincerely

FOI and DPA Team

Dear Foreign and Commonwealth Office,

Thank you for your reply. Could I request only the documents concerning Republic of Ireland for the period of 1990-2006?

Thanks.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Dear Mr Smith,

Thank you for your reply.

You have removed the Netherlands, but that was not our question.

In our email we simply asked:

Would it be possible for you to refine your request and specify a shorter time frame? For example a 5 year period within the period 1990-2006 for the correspondence you are seeking?

Can please provide us with a revised request which we will then accept and consider our response.

Your sincerely

Dear Foreign and Commonwealth Office,

Thank you for your reply.

I've reconsidered the time frame, and would like to revise the period of my request to 1998-2006, for both Republic of Ireland and the Netherlands. A further reduction of time frame would not be sufficient for my study based thereon.

Thanks.

Yours faithfully,

James Smith

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

within 20 working days, following date of receipt.
