UWE students with ICCE qualifications

The request was successful.

Dear University of the West of England,

I am researching the International Certificate of Christian Education (ICCE), an alternative qualification offered by some private Christian schools. From 1992 until 2004, the ICCE was called the National Christian Schools Certificate (NCSC). Some websites advertising the qualification claim that the ICCE has been used to gain acceptance onto courses at UWE, eg: http://icce-global.org/universities-and-...

I am seeking the following information in electronic form.

1. Have students been accepted by your institution on the basis of NCSC or ICCE qualifications? If so, how many?

2. What is your institution’s policy on acceptance of the ICCE Advanced Certificate? Does your institution recognise it as a university entrance qualification?

Yours faithfully,

Jonny

UWE responded to me outside of the What Do They Know system (I had lodged a previous request which I thought they had not received, so this FOI request was a duplicate). Here is their response in full:

Dear Jonny Scaramanga,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST

Thank you for your request for information received on 22 October 2014 about the International Certificate in Christian Education (ICCE) as an entry qualification for programmes of study at the University.
The University’s responses to your questions are as follows.

1 Have students with NCSC or ICCE qualifications been accepted by your institution since 2004? If so, how many?

8 applicants to the University since 2004 who were made an offer of a place listed the ICCE or NCSC on their application form.
Please note that we are not able to identify whether the offer was made on the basis of the ICCE/NCSC qualification or on other qualifications held by the applicant, and not all of these applicants went on to register at the University.

2 If possible, for what courses were these students accepted?
FdA Working with Children and Young People
FdA Inclusive Practice
BSc (Hons) Computer Science
BSc (Hons) Computing
BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing
BSc (Hons) Children’s Nursing
BA (Hons) Illustration
BA (Hons) Criminology
BA (Hons) Geography
Note that some applicants were offered places on more than one programme.

3 What is your institution’s policy on acceptance of the ICCE Advanced Certificate? Does your institution recognise it as a university entrance qualification?

The University considers a wide range of non-standard qualifications for entry onto programmes of study. Our Admissions Policy can be found on the University’s website: http://www1.uwe.ac.uk/aboutus/policies.f you have any questions about this response or are dissatisfied with the handling of your
request, please contact me again in the first instance.

If you then believe that your request has not been dealt with properly, you may apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision at: The Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely
