Use of tiltmeters for monitoring during hydraulic fracturing

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy,

Please treat this as a Freedom of Information request.
1. Does BEIS regard the document from July 2013 "About shale gas and hydraulic fracturing (fracking)" as still current?
Link: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk...
2. The above document contains the following advice:
“until the characteristics of fracking in a particular formation are well established, in addition to the real time monitoring described above, tiltmeters and a permanent buried seismometer system will record the usual microseismic events (of magnitude much less than ML 0.5) that accompany all fracking activity”.
Is this advice still current?
3. Were tiltmeters used at Cuadrilla’s PNR-1z fracking operation in October-December 2018?
4. Are tiltmeters being used at Cuadrilla’s PNR2 fracking operation currently underway in August 2019?
5. Were tiltmeters proposed for Third Energy’s fracking operation at KM8 in North Yorkshire?

Yours faithfully,

Ruth Hayhurst

FOI Requests, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

Dear Ms Hayhurst

Thank you for your email of 21 August 2019.

The Department has dealt with your request as general correspondence
because in its current form we do not think it constitutes a request for
recorded information, as set out by the Freedom of Information Act.

The document you refer to "About shale gas and hydraulic fracturing
(fracking)" was published in July 2013 and has been updated several times
on the gov.uk website. The current advice is linked to this original
document and can be found here:
[1]https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlo...

With regard to whether tiltmeters were used at Cuadrilla’s PNR-1z and PNR2
hydraulic fracturing operations or were proposed for Third Energy’s
hydraulic fracturing operations at KM8, the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA)
will be able to clarify this, as this information would be included in any
Hydraulic Fracturing Plan that either operator would need to agree with
the OGA before operations were allowed to begin.

Guidance on what the OGA require of operators before hydraulic fracturing
operations can commence can be found on the OGA's website:

Yours sincerely,
