Erica Gibson (Team Leader - Business Development), Newport City Council

Dear Mr Hamed

Please find below a response to your recent request, under the Freedom of
Information Act, for information concerning social work professionals
within Newport City Council.

Q1. What is the total number of Social Workers employed in the council on
a permanent basis & what proportion are employed on an agency basis -
please provide break down based on department.

Permanent workers:

Adults: 71

Childrens: 141

Snapshot of agency  as at 28 February 2018:

Adults - 8

Childrens – 3

Q2. Who (post and name if appropriate) is responsible for recruitment and
retention of social workers on an agency basis in the council?

The Council took the decision not to publish direct contact details for
staff, including email addresses and phone numbers, but instead to utilise
our website and City Contact Centre. This move helps to ensure that
customers are always directed to the appropriate person and that email
correspondence is routed correctly. It also ensures that any change of
staff do not affect the public's ability to contact the Council and gain
appropriate information.

Please visit our [1]website for details of how to make contact with
Council.

Q3. Please confirm the sum of off contract spend within the Local
Authority on temporary social workers, senior practitioners & team
managers, i.e. that is paid for outside of any PSL or Managed Service
Provider from between 1st of May 2017 - 28th of February 2018 - please
break down based on department.

We only source social workers, senior practitioners and team managers from
our framework provider and therefore there is no off contract spend.

Q4. Please confirm the total spend within the Local Authority on temporary
social workers, senior practitioners & team managers from between 1st of
May 2017 - 28th of February 2018 - please break down based on department.

For the period May 2017 to February 2018

Adults – £285,556

Childrens - £110,246

I trust this information answers your request. However, if you have any
queries about this information or you are unhappy with the service you
have received in relation to your request and wish to make a complaint or
request a review of our decision, please contact me.

In the event you are not content with the outcome of any complaint, you
may apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision.
Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the
Council’s complaint procedure.  The Information Commissioner can be
contacted at: The Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water
Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely

Erica Gibson
