Use of Roundup

We're waiting for Marcus Drummond to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,

I notice that the issue pertaining to the use of Glyphosate products such as Roundup, has been raised before.

I would like to point to the recent events which have occurred in the US related to the use of Roundup where a jury found Monsanto guilty of causing Lee Johnson terminal cancer. He was awarded $289,000,000. A hefty sum I'm certain no council wishes to pay out, let alone afford.

Can you please tell me if the council is still using this product as I think its time you reopened this investigation and seriously reconsiders the use of this clearly life threatening substance.

Yours Marcus Drummond

Yours faithfully,

Marcus Drummond

Dear Mr Drummond

We write further to your Freedom of Information request regarding the
Council’s use of Glyphosate products.

Wirral Council uses glyphosate to assist with the control of weeds at the
edges of roads and along pavements and also around bins and the edges of
hard surfaces in some of its parks.   Controlling weed growth at road
edges, pavements and at the edges of hard standing areas is necessary to
help keep the borough looking attractive. Glyphosate has recently
undergone a thorough review in Europe and been re-approved for use in
amenity situations.

We trust this answers your enquiry.

Yours sincerely
