Use of personal email accounts by staff in The Home Office

Wayne Pearsall made this Freedom of Information request to Home Office This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Home Office,

I am enquiring into your policy in relation to the use of personal email accounts at the Home Office whilst employees are on duty.

Can you please provide me with a copy of your policy that outlines responsibilities for employees in relation to their use of "personal communication methods".

By "Personal Communication methods" I include: email, telephone, mobiles, sms, facebook, twitter, google+ (and any other social media site), "dropbox websites" (such as dropbox.com)

I am keen to discover the extents that The Home Office goes to ensure that the personal information of both clients and employees is protected.

Yours faithfully,

Wayne Pearsall

Dear Home Office,

I am righting in relation to my request for information made on the 13th of august 2013 with the reference number 172909.

I have to date not recieved a response. By law you should of replied to me promptly and no later than the 11th September 2013 (Yesterday).

You have failed to meet this obligation, and therefore have clearly breached S 10 of the FOIA2000.

(This is a request for an Internal Review of my complaint)

Yours faithfully,

Wayne Pearsall

My husbands ex wife and her new husband (both Home Office employees at Lunar House) improperly accessed all my personal information and continue to do so. The Home Office found that they 'improperly', accessed my data, but the two of them are still working there and are still accessing information on my husband and I. The Home Office have done absolutely nothing about it. I have also found out that everybody is reading my CID notes and passing them on to colleagues telling them I am a trouble maker. How very professional is that? I look forward to the reply and have also just made several requests, which they have 'co-incidentally' not responded to. The endemic cover up in the Home Office is entrenched and rampant.

CA: That is serious misconduct. and they should of been suspended pending a full investigation as per the Home Office policies. I understand the Home Office follow non of their policies. They failed to act despite recrded telephone conversations being provided with a clearly racist attitude.

Oh my... they conclude that it's ok for employees to surf the internet, shop, and do their personal finances at work. Thats fantastic...

but still further information should be available?

Dear Home Office,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Home Office's handling of my FOI request 'Use of personal email accounts by staff in The Home Office'.

Further to my FOI request 28696, it is clear that you did not answer my FOI request. Your response focuses on the use of departmental resources. I however requested policies in relation to PERSONAL email accounts, telephones, and social networking sites ETC.

I can see from this request that it appears perfectly acceptable for members of staff to go surfing ebay or book their holidays (specifically stated as acceptable uses). You have not, however, provided the policies outlining the reasoning for this.

As my request stated "whilst they are on duty" i take it from your response that these actions are all acceptable whilst the individual is being paid to perform other tasks (IE: process visa applications ETC).

You have also failed to respond to my final question, and provide me with the information on the extents the HO goes to to protect the personal information of both staff and clients.

I note that your responsibilities under the DPA have clearly been breached in a number of instances that I am personally aware of.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/u...

Yours faithfully,

Wayne Pearsall

Please note Wayne that they were unwilling to provide me with their guidelines for handling personal data in my request

Yes. Well still. They are breaching the act as they tweet . YouTube and make press releases about individuals with valid reason for doing so

Gonna have to look through this more carefully do as to word my ico complaint appropriately. I know business addresses and unit telephones are not personal info. .. Why did they get redacted in the secure working document. ... lots of unjust reactions in here. ..

Also. They have a whistle boats policy. .. interesting

Wayne - if it is of any help, I have personal emails which UKBA employees sent me from Lunar House! Loads of them. Especially humorous forwards.

Wayne Pearsall left an annotation ()

Feel free to fwd them to me... ìll addthem to my contact list

You could ask what intenet sites the employees were browsing.

Say a week, or month, or from any location...

It would be interesting to know how intenet browsing is monitored - and what sites the public are paying for Home Office employees to surf.

Wayne Pearsall left an annotation ()

I would. However I've been added to the very elite club of a vexatious correspondent. They'll refuse to answer me.

I'm thinking if having. 'I've been vexed' badge of pride printed ..since gvt organisations seem to be treating vexing as a new toy, post Dransfield.

Heaven knows it's going to clog up the tribunal courts and must take £££££'s with unfair applications if the Act,

Thank goodness the courts see sense.
