Use of Oracle Products
Dear Department for Transport,
1. Do you currently make use of any Oracle products? If so, which?
2. What is the quantity of licensed users split by each Oracle
product used by your organisation?
3. What is the value of your current Oracle contracts, split by
product?
4. Do you outsource your Oracle projects, services or maintenance
to an external supplier? If so, whom? When does that contract
expire?
5. In 2013, the Cabinet Office appointed an Open Standards Board to
drive the use of Open Source across Government. Which Open Source
databases have you (a) deployed since 2013 and (b) have firm plans
to deploy within the next 18 months as alternatives to Oracle
products?
Yours faithfully,
David Clark

Dear Mr Clark
I am writing regarding your request for information, which we received on
7th August. In that request, you asked us for information relating to
Oracle products and Open Source databases, full question below for ease of
reference.
I will be unable to proceed with your request without clarification of the
information you wish to receive. To help us do so, I would like to know
what you wish to include in “Oracle Products”; for example are you looking
for us respond on all products based on java?
Also, what do you expect us to include under “value of your current Oracle
contracts”.
Can you please state if your request includes the Agencies.
Please note that if I do not receive appropriate clarification of your
information requirements within three months from the date of this letter,
then I will consider your request closed.
If you wish to discuss any of the above, please contact me. Please
remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.
Yours sincerely,

Dear Mr Croft,
1. The request isn't for just anything that us written in the Java language or run within the Java Virtual Machine. By Oracle products I mean commercially licensed Oracle software products, for example any of the Oracle Database products (https://www.oracle.com/database/products... ) or Middleware such as Oracle WebLogic.
2. Value of current Oracle contracts – I mean the monetary value of licence, support or services contracts in place with Oracle in relation to any of the products from the clarification above.
3. This request is for the Department of Transport only. Not your agencies.
Thank you
David Clark
Dear Mr Clark
Thanks for this clarification we will now start to process your request.

A
