Use of COMPUTER-TRANSLATION technologies (e.g. Google Translate(TM), Microsoft Translator(TM) etc.)

This request has been withdrawn by the person who made it. There may be an explanation in the correspondence below.

Dear FoI Department,

This FoI Request is in regard to your organisation's use of and policies on the use of, either formally or informally, COMPUTER-TRANSLATION tools of the kind mentioned in the Subject description (but not restricted to the two examples given).

1. Does your organisation have a formal policy which covers your organisation's use of any such computer-translation tools. If so, please can a copy of your policy be included in your response?

2. Has your organisation carried out (or outsourced) research or analysis regarding the appropriateness of such computer-translation tools (and their output) for use by your organisation? If so, please can a copy of such research or analysis be included in your response?

3. Does your organisation routinely monitor the use of such computer-translation tools? If so, can any such monitoring analysis be included in your response?

4. Does your organisation routinely monitor the ad-hoc use of such computer-translation tools by your organisation's staff in the conduct of your organisations' work?

Thank you,

Yours faithfully,

N F Coulson.

Dear Police Advisory Board for England and Wales,

Please note that his FoI request is now classed as "long overdue" and has not yet even had an initial acknowledgement response.

Please advise as to whether an internal review request is required.

Thank you,

Yours faithfully,

Dear Police Advisory Board for England and Wales,

Thank you for your response.

Your response states that:

"The Police Advisory Board for England and Wales (PABEW) is an independent and non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Home Office. The Home Office therefore does not hold any information within the scope of your request."

The same FoI request was also sent to the Home Office directly - who responded appropriately with answers to the FoI questions in the request. However, you say that: "The Home Office therefore does not hold any information within the scope of your request". The Home Office clearly DO hold information within the scope of this request as they could not have responded to the direct request to them if they did not.

Shall I formally request an internal review?

Yours faithfully,

N F Coulson

Dear Police Advisory Board for England and Wales,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Police Advisory Board for England and Wales's handling of my FOI request 'Use of COMPUTER-TRANSLATION technologies (e.g. Google Translate(TM), Microsoft Translator(TM) etc.)'.

I have had no response to my last email, which said:

PABEW Secretariat, Police Advisory Board for England and Wales

Dear Coulson,

Thank you for your below email of 22 July. Unfortunately the email you have referred to has not been received in this inbox - apologies the IT firewall at times blocks or puts email into the junk email incorrectly.

In response to your email, I can forward this to the Freedom of Information department for further response if you prefer. By way of background, as Secretariat to the Police Advisory Board for England and Wales (PABEW), the PABEW considers draft regulations under the Police Act 1996 about matters such as recruitment, diversity and collaboration between forces. It also works with police managers and staff to respond to more general questions from the Home Secretary about changes to and reform of the police in England and Wales. You can read more about what the PABEW do by clicking on the following link: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisati...

The PABEW meet quarterly to discuss the above issues relating to policing and the work involved does not require the use of computer-translation tools.
