The request was successful.

Dear Liverpool City Region Combined Authority,
Could you please advise: What proposed upgrades of Railway Stations have/are to be carried out within the Borough of St Helens, including minutes of meetings etc? In
particular, but not exclusive to Garswood Station. Additionally iff Garswood Station has in the recent past been scheduled for upgrade with prep work carried out
but being shelved due to budget constraints and overspend at St Helens
Central? Please supply any information. Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Wendy Hill

Dear Ms. Hill

RSN22779

Thank you for your recent request made under the Freedom of Information
Act. Please find the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s response
below.

In terms of recent upgrades in the St Helens borough, the following
projects have been completed:

o Newton-le-Willows - Major station refurbishment and expansion of park
and ride to over 400 spaces with station made fully accessible.
o St Helens Junction - Park and ride expanded for 73 spaces to 242
spaces.
o Lea Green - Project being developed which will expand park and ride at
site and deliver a  new ticket office.

We are not aware of any work ever being cancelled at Garswood station
noting the extensive rail programme investment detailed above.

Northern Rail did undertake a refurbishment of the ticket office at
Garswood and also refurbished the footbridge approximately a decade ago,
but that is the last major investment work at the station we are aware of.
With regard any maintenance works carried out at the station that would be
a matter that you would need to correspond directly with Network Rail as
asset owners of the station.

We are currently looking at all stations within the Liverpool City Region
which do not have step free access, including Garswood, with view to
developing a programme to make all stations more accessible. There are
over 20 stations in this category, and funding all upgrades presents an
ongoing challenge. The Combined Authority is committed to exploring all
appropriate funding avenues for this work, but we are not currently in a
position to estimate when this work may take place.

I trust that this information is of interest to you.
