Update to Scheduled Ancient Monument inspections

Jamie Stone made this Freedom of Information request to Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England,

I would like to make a request under the freedom of information act for an update to the information received under a previous FOIA request made by myself initially on 25th November 2011. The initial request and responses are available to view here:

https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/s...

For this new request I would explicitly like to know all inspections of Scheduled Ancient Monuments that have taken place since the last request was compiled. This should be in the same format as the data that was sent to me on the 12th December 2011 contained within the previous request. The format previously was a separate excel spreadsheet for each region containing the following information for each visit: Monument Number, Monument Name, Region, Date of visit.

To clarify, this is a request for information on inspections that have taken place to all scheduled monuments, both newly scheduled and pre-existing within the schedule, after the 10th December 2011.

I would prefer to receive this information electronically.

If one part of this request can be answered sooner than others, please send that information first followed by any subsequent data. If FOI requests of a similar nature have already been asked could you please include your responses to those requests.

If you need any clarification then please email me. Under your section 16 duty to provide advice and assistance I would expect you to contact me if you find this request unmanageable in any way so we can negotiate how best to proceed.

I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing that you have received this request, and I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Yours faithfully,

Jamie Stone

Dear Mr Stone,

Re: Environmental Information Request – Scheduled Ancient Monument
Inspections

Thank you for your email on 14 January.  In your email you have requested
information on inspections that have taken place to all scheduled
monuments, both newly scheduled and pre-existing within the schedule,
after the 10th December 2011, in the same format as the data that
was previously supplied on the 12th December 2011.

Your request will be considered under the Environmental Information
Regulations 2004 (EIR).  We will be writing to you within the statutory 20
working day timeframe with a response to your request.  You will be
informed if this is not possible.

The EIR provide a similar right of access to the Freedom of Information
Act which you refer to in your email and we are required to use them when
dealing with requests for environmental information.

Details of our review procedure are attached.

Yours sincerely,

Ann Bryan

Dear Mr Stone,

Re: Environmental Information Request - Scheduled Ancient Monument Inspections

Thank you for your email on 14 January, in which you requested information on inspections that have taken place to all scheduled monuments, both newly scheduled and pre-existing within the schedule, from 10th December 2011 to the date of your request. You would like this information to be made available in the same format as the data that was previously supplied to you on 12 December 2011.

I can confirm that English Heritage holds information that falls within the scope of your request and that, under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR), I am able to provide you with that information as attached.

The attached spreadsheets contain records of visits to Scheduled Ancient Monuments by our monitoring staff, broken down as requested. While I hope you find them useful please note that as many sites are visited in the
course of other advice and grant work, which are not recorded in a central database, they are not comprehensive. Not all Scheduled Ancient Monuments are regularly inspected by English Heritage. We use our Heritage at Risk programme to inform monitoring regimes, and sites are prioritised according to their management needs and overall vulnerability.

Although you have narrowed your date range to visits that took place after 10 December 2011, I have provided you with a full list of inspections for completeness. This is because deleting rows for the monuments that were inspected before your date range would also delete the Scheduled Ancient Monument data. I have sorted the data by 'date of last site visit'. I hope that this will be helpful to you in reviewing the information.

I hope that the information I have been able to provide is useful to you. If however you are unhappy with this response you may request an internal review. Details of our review procedure are attached.

Yours sincerely,

Jenny Pearson

Hi,

I am unable to open the spreadsheets. I have downloaded them using both Chrome and Firefox but in both cases the zip file opens but an unspecified error occurs when extracting any of the excel spreadsheets. Can you rezip and resend?

Thanks

Jamie Stone
