Thank you for submitting an FOI request, requesting information from the
University of Warwick. To comply with your request, we would be grateful
if you could please clarify the following:

• Please can you explain what you mean by registration. Do you mean the
number of enrolments?

In addition to the above clarification points, having reviewed your
request, the University estimates that compliance with your request would
exceed the appropriate costs limit under S.12 Freedom of Information Act
2000. Public authorities are not obliged to work past the appropriate
costs limit under section 12(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
This is currently £450, which equates to 18 hours of staff time calculated
at £25 an hour as set out in the Freedom of Information and Data
Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004.

The University believes your request would exceed the costs limit because
the University’s admission team does not have the software to collate exam
performance of offer holders into the requested breakdown. Each
qualification for an applicant is presented as a single entry of data. In
order to determine the minimum, maximum and average grades of offer
holders, the admissions team would have to manually search each line for
each applicant to ascertain what that applicant set of grades are. This
would then have to be manually grouped together to ascertain the minimum,
maximum and average grades. The University estimates that this would
exceed the cost limit. This is also excludes the time taken to export the
raw data, plus additional work such as checking for possible identifying
combinations, exclusion of those not studying A Levels, IB or AP. It is
therefore advised that you submit a refined request.

The University is obliged to offer guidance as to what would be manageable
under the costs limit so with that in mind, it would be able to provide
the number of Chinese applications, offers and enrolments for all
undergraduate courses for the requested years. If this information would
be of interest to you then when you provide the clarification requested
above, please also submit a refined request stating that you are happy to
proceed on the basis we have suggested.

If you do submit a refined request, the University will treat it as a
substitute request to your original request and the 20-working day
statutory time frame will begin from the date your refined request is
received. In the absence of a refined request, the University will send an
official response to your original request, engaging the costs limit
exemption under section 12(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000
within the original 20-working day statutory time frame. Please also be
advised that the University will be unable to proceed with your request
until you have provided the requested clarification(s) and the 20-working
day statutory time frame does not begin until the clarification(s) is
received.

Kind Regards
