Dear University of Reading,

What IT Research providers are you using for your IT Services department, Academic Staff and Students? (research access through electronic for computing students/information technology)

Do you have a subscription with Gartner?

How much do you pay annually for this subscription?

When does this subscription end?

Who makes the decision to acquire, is it Library or IT Services?

Who can I contact to speak about providing technology based research?

(more info - I would like to know if the University currently uses IT research providers such as Gartner or Forrester for their IT Services AND/OR Students, AND/OR Academic Staff. These providers would usually provide information on technology so market shares, forecasts, information on vendors.

I would also like to know what position in the university selects e-resources. so is there a director of information, or CIO, or Head of Library. who are the people involved in decision making)

Yours faithfully,

Dan Walk

IMPS, University of Reading

What IT Research providers are you using for your IT Services department, Academic Staff and Students? (research access through electronic for computing students/information technology)

Please be advised that, as we are unable to conclusively locate all possible users of IT research providers without consulting all staff across the University, which we estimate to engage exemptions under the appropriate fee limits within the FOIA (this task would take longer than 18 hours) we have instead consulted key stakeholders, and provided as much information as we can in relation to known subscriptions.

Do you have a subscription with Gartner?

Henley Business School does have a subscription with Gartner.

How much do you pay annually for this subscription?

Between £12,000 and £15,000

When does this subscription end?

30/11/18.

Who makes the decision to acquire, is it Library or IT Services?

The decision was made by the Academic Resource Centre Manager in conjunction with academic staff.

Who can I contact to speak about providing technology based research?

For Henley Business School you could speak to either the Academic Resource Centre Manager or Heads of Departments. Contacts are publically available via our staff search tool here:

http://www.reading.ac.uk/search/search-d...

Please be advised that provision of this search tool should not be taken to mean that individuals have consented to receive unsolicited marketing (which will be subject to the Privacy of Electronic Communications Regulations 2003).

I would like to know if the University currently uses IT research providers such as Gartner or Forrester for their IT Services AND/OR Students, AND/OR Academic Staff. These providers would usually provide information on technology so market shares, forecasts, information on vendors.

All Henley Business School staff and students have access to Gartner.

I would also like to know what position in the university selects e-resources. so is there a director of information, or CIO, or Head of Library. who are the people involved in decision making).

In Henley Business School e-resources are usually selected for consideration by academic staff and approved by the Academic Resource Centre Manager. For the rest of the University this may lie with various staff within IT and/or the Library.
