Universal credit postal/telephone alternative when distance to nearest JCP is unmanageable

The request was successful.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

In 2013 you answered Jay T London's question www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/legal_jsa... on how far people can be expected to travel to sign on for JSA.

This document was made available as part of the response www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/172807/re...

Is there similar guidance for Universal Credit claimants asked to attend meetings with their work coaches (other than the initial verifying identity / claimant commitment meeting)? Can work coaches conduct meetings over the phone as an alternative to asking clients to walk more than 3 miles, spend longer than an hour door to door travelling in, or spending more than 4 hours in total away from their home attending JCP UC appointments?

Yours faithfully,

Ms E Miller

Dear [email address] on behalf of Operations FOI Team,

thank you for your reply. Could you clarify two areas for me please:

1. Are the 2 bulleted points to be linked by an ' OR' or an 'AND'. Without
knowing this the criteria are meaningless.
2. If the cost of travel to fortnightly WSR that are more frequent than
fortnightly can be reclaimed, can we infer that the cost of alternate weekly WSR
can also be reclaimed?

Yours sincerely,

E Miller
