Dear Kirklees Borough Council,

Please answer the following questions:

1. How much money does the Council pay to unison per annum?
2. Why is this payment made?
3. On what date the Council commence these payments?
4. List the amount of each of the payments in each of the past 5 financial years
5. What facilities does the Council make available to Unison eg office space, furniture, technology, energy?
6. What is the current annual monetary value of these facilities?

Please also answer these questions for any other employee unions which receives financial funds from the Council.

I am writing in response to your request dated 13 April 2017.  This has
been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

 

The Council’s response to your specific questions is set out below:

 

1.       How much money does the Council pay to unison per annum?

 

The Council does not make annual payments to Unison

 

2.       Why is this payment made?

 

Not applicable, the Council does not make annual payments to Unison

 

3.       On what date the Council commence these payments?

 

Not applicable, the Council does not make annual payments to Unison

 

4.       List the amount of each of the payments in each of the past 5
financial years

 

Not applicable, the Council does not make annual payments to Unison

 

5.       What facilities does the Council make available to Unison eg
office space, furniture, technology, energy?

 

The Council does not make office space, furniture, technology or energy
available to Unison other than on the occasions when they use Council
meeting rooms for meetings with Council officers.

 

6.       What is the current annual monetary value of these facilities?

 

The Council does not hold this information; it is not possible to quantify
a monetary value the cost of facilities which may be used on occasion by
Unison as opposed to them being used by council officers.

 

You may be interested to kow that the Council does publish TU data in line
with the Transparency Code; this can be found at:

The line which refers to “Estimate of spending on unions” is where the
Council allows council officers the time to carry out union duties; this
is not a payment to the unions.
