Underlying analysis for estimate of working dependants under the Health and Care Worker visa

Mr Adis Sehic made this Freedom of Information request to Home Office Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was successful.

Dear Home Office,

In the Home Secretary’s speech on legal migration, delivered on Monday 4 December 2023(https://hansard.parliament.uk/commons/20...), it was stated that “only 25% of dependants are estimated to be in work”, when referring to dependants under the Health and Care Worker visa route.

Please provide the underlying analysis and raw data that supports the figure of 25% quoted. In particular, please explain how this estimate was arrived at notwithstanding that (1) the Home Office’s public data releases do not distinguish between partners and children when counting dependants and (2) working dependants are not ‘sponsored’ in the same way that main applicants are and are generally free to work across various job roles (apart from sportspersons or coaches).

In the event that you determine some of the information I have requested to be exempt from disclosure, please redact exempt information with black boxes, instead of snipping or excerpting, and please state which category of exemption you believe applies to the information.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Adis Sehic
