Undergraduate accommodation

The request was partially successful.

Dear University of Leeds,

I would like to know if all your applications for first-year accommodation are considered together equally, or whether there is a priority system based on who applies when or what course for?

I am asking because as a medicine applicant, I know I will not be able to apply until later in the cycle (in the theoretical situation I receive an offer!) than some others due to the interview process. Additionally, I will be unable to afford any but 2 of the University accommodation buildings and I’m rather concerned a late application would force me into a building I cannot afford.

Yours faithfully,
E. Rose

Jenny Foggin,

I am away from the office and will not be back until Wednesday 3 January. The University will be closed from Thursday 21 December until Tuesday 2 January. Jenny Foggin,

Dear E. Rose,

Our policies are set out on the website at https://accommodation.leeds.ac.uk/info/4.... As set out there,

'If you have an unconditional offer at Leeds, we will allocate your accommodation between 18 July and 1 August.

If you have a conditional offer we will allocate your accommodation after your application becomes unconditional – in most cases soon after A-Level results are published. Don’t worry if your friends find out where they have been allocated before you do. With nearly 8,000 applications to look through, we have to send offers out over a number of weeks.

If you are a postgraduate we will email you in July to give you additional information about accommodation, and ask you to confirm your preferences. We will then allocate your room from late July to early September.'

This applies irrespective of the particular programme to which you apply. It sounds as though you have specific concerns that would be best discussed with one of our accommodation team, though. You can contact them via the Accommodation Office on [email address] or call us on 0370 1200 189 / 0113 343 7777.

I hope this is helpful in resolving your query. If you have any questions about this email, however, please don't hesitate to contact me.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our decision, you should write to or email directly Mr D Wardle, Deputy Secretary, The University of Leeds, Leeds, LS2 9JT ([email address]). You should do so within three months of receiving the University’s response to your request. Further information about how the University manages Freedom of Information requests and about our complaints procedure is also available on our website (www.leeds.ac.uk).

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the review/complaints procedure provided by the University. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Best wishes,

Jenny
