Under Two’s

The request was successful.

Dear North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust,

What is the rationale for all patients under 2 requiring conveyance to the emergency department when calls come from the 999 system.

Yours faithfully,

John Anthony

Dear John,

In response to your Freedom of Information request, the rationale for the
conveyance to the emergency department of patients under the age of two
years old, following a face-to-face (see and treat) contact with an
ambulance clinician, follows the principal recommendation that all
children under the age of two should be conveyed is what informs our
current practice.

In July 2021, NASMed issued their ‘Best Practice guidance Conveyance of
children by operational ambulance clinicians in face-to-face settings’ -
[1]publicly available here. We are in the process of aligning to these
guidelines in their entirety, which will see us ‘removing’ the current
requirement regarding patients under 2years old.

I hope this information is of assistance.

Kind regards

Caroline Turner
