Unconscious Bias-Governor training

We're waiting for Abdul Hai to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Bedford Borough Council,

You have organised Unconscious Bias training for school Governors on the 7th of December 2020.

How much is this costing you?
How was the training provider chosen?
Can you publish any evidence that you have this actually works?
As a public authority what account did you take of the views of people who oppose this and concerns from even Ministers?

Yours faithfully,

Abdul Hai

Response:

This is a course for governors and the course details/descriptor follows:

GT519  Unconscious Bias - Governor training Monday 7th December,
18.00-19.30, Zoom The course will provide governors with tools and
techniques to challenge and support senior leaders to overcome unconscious
bias and create school environments where everyone feels included, safe
and able to achieve.

During the training participants will:

Develop an understanding of why and how unconscious bias manifests Explore
the link between unconscious bias, stereotyping, prejudice and
discrimination Consider the impact of unconscious bias and implicit
prejudice on staff, pupils and the wider school community Be equipped with
tools and techniques to work with senior leaders to highlight issues,
overcome unconscious bias and create more equal, diverse and inclusive
settings Tutor Sarah Soyei, (she/her), Head of Strategy and Development,
EqualiTeach CIC

The course will cost £300 and we chose Equaliteach as they have worked
with local schools in the past and delivered governor training that has
been evaluated as good and very good by participants in the past. A
governor suggested this may be a good topic to explore.
