Dear Dr Maynard

I am writing in response to your request under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000 whereby you requested –

‘For the latest entry cycle you have available (likely 2017 entry) for
A100 entry:

Average UKCAT score* for applicants who do and don't take A-level Maths
Average UKCAT score* for applicants who do and don't take A-level Biology
Average UKCAT score* for applicants who do and don't take A-level
Chemistry Average UKCAT score* for applicants who do and don't take
A-level Physics Average UKCAT score* for applicants who do and don't take
A-level Further Maths Average UKCAT score* for applicants who do and don't
take an A-level that is not listed above.

Please could you additionally include number of applicants in each group
if possible, to aid further analysis.

*Average UKCAT score to be considered: a numerical mean of the score for
each section of the UKCAT. If this is unavailable, a numerical mean for
the overall UKCAT score is acceptable.’

Data not held - the University of Manchester does not run the A100
course. 

For information the University runs the A106 course and we do hold UKCAT
scores in relation to this.  However, we do not score A-levels as part of
our admissions processes so do not record the individual A-Level subjects
separately; they only exist in individual student records.  Therefore even
if you were to change the scope of your request to the A106 course it is
unlikely that we would be able to obtain the data within the required
timeframe.

The University of Manchester Freedom of Information Act appeals procedure 

If you feel that The University of Manchester has refused access to
information to which you are entitled, or has not dealt with your request
appropriately under the FOIA, you have a right of appeal.

An appeal in the first instance should be directed to the Information
Governance Office, contact details below. You should include: 

·         details of your initial request

·         any other relevant information

The University will deal with your appeal within a reasonable time, and
will inform you of the projected time scale on receipt of your complaint.

You are also welcome to contact the Information Governance Office with
informal questions about the handling of your request. 

After The University’s internal appeals procedure has been exhausted, you
have a further right of appeal to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
