Dear Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office,

I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Please may you provide a list of all contacts UK embassy officials in China have had with British American Tobacco, Imperial Tobacco, Japan Tobacco International, Philip Morris International and Altria as well as any domestic tobacco companies in China. I would like this information for period from 1 January 2014 to 30 November 2020. Contacts would primarily include attending or arranging meetings or functions and responding to correspondence or phone calls.

Please may the information be broken down by:
• Tobacco company name
• Date of contact
• Purpose of contact

I request that the information be provided electronically.

Many thanks for your time.

Yours faithfully,

Amelia Crowther

Information Rights Unit,

Dear Amelia Crowther

Thank you for your FOI request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

We received your request on 3rd December. It has been assigned a unique
reference number (above). We aim to respond by 5th January.

Please note, however, that reprioritisation of resources due to the
COVID-19 crisis, and measures we are required to take to prevent the
spread of the virus, continue to have an impact on our ability to respond
to all requests within the statutory deadline.

We have significantly reduced on-site working which will mean delays to
responses which require access to paper records.

We are endeavouring to process requests as quickly as possible, and
appreciate your patience at this time.

Yours sincerely,

Information Rights Unit
