Dear Miss Rashid,

Freedom of Information Request (our reference FOI21427)

We refer to your Freedom of Information request dated 28/08/2021.

You requested the following information:

Please may you confirm in the last three years the number of applicants,
the number of applicants invited to interview, the average ucat score, the
lowest and highest ucat scores invited to interview and the lowest at
score given an offer in an excel sheet if possible. Also do you look at
situational judgement? Also, it is possible for low ucat to be compensated
by high gcses?

University’s Response

Further to Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the “Act”) we
confirm that the information requested is held by the University of
Bristol (the “University”).

Please see attached spreadsheet for the requested data.

We do not use the scores from the Situational Judgement subtest of the
UCAT.

For the specified years we scored applications based on various criteria
which were all combined to create the applicant’s overall score:

• GCSEs: 15%
• A-Levels: 15%
• Personal statement: 35%
• UCAT: 35%

In all cases, applicants were required to meet the minimum A-Level and
GCSE requirements as stated on the course finder. Given the above model of
weighting it is possible that someone with very high GCSEs could have had
a slightly lower UCAT score, however as GCSEs were worth 15% and the UCAT
was worth 35%, GCSEs would not have been able to offset the UCAT by a
great deal.
