Dear Mr McIntosh

Our ref: FOI-1623-1718/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 25
September 2017 asking for information about TfL’s inspections of taxis and
Uber .

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that
we do hold some of the information you require.

Please see below breakdown which shows the number of compliance checks on
taxi and private hire vehicles and drivers for a 12 month period from 1^st
October 2016 to the 30^th Sept 2017. Please note that this does not
include checks undertaken during visits to PHV operators. TfL does not
hold data broken down to operator level, and we are therefore unable to
provide you with the requested information specifically for Uber London
Limited.

Total checked
PHV Drivers checked 119008
PHV Vehicles checked 127501

Taxi Drivers checked 42671
Taxi Vehicles checked 41890

Please note that some drivers and vehicles will have been checked more
than once in the year – the figures above indicate the number of checks
carried out, rather than the number of unique drivers or vehicles checked.

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate
to contact me.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached
information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
