Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

Please consider this as a request for information in accordance with section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I read today, with great interest, the statement that less than half of East Midlands adults claim to have lost their TV remote controls over the last 12 months. I also learnt that TV Licensing, at public expense, has been conducting research on the crucially important subject of what people actually call their TV remote controls. Apparently the term "doofah" is the second most popular term for such a device.

Entertaining as TV Licensing's periodically generated trivia is, I was wondering if there was actually a contractual basis for it conducting such research.

Under the terms of the Act, please provide the following:
- Any BBC held information that mentions or relates to TV Licensing having to conduct research into subjects related to TV viewing.

As the scope of this request could be potentially quite wide, please confine your search to contractual information produced in the last five years.

As it may assist your handling of this request, I simply want to know if the BBC requires its TV Licensing contracted companies to conduct research on subjects related to TV viewing.

If the requested information doesn't exist perhaps the BBC would be kind enough, in accordance with section 16 of the Act, to confirm/deny whether it requires any of the TV Licensing contracted companies to conduct such periodic research.

Yours faithfully,

Peter Jones
