We're waiting for Liam W to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Transport for London,

Please could you provide me with the fares charged in the following situations, as well as details explaining how they were calculated:

1. When a user with a Travelcard listed in the Travelcard price table travels to a station outside their Travelcard zone(s).

2. When a user with a Travelcard listed in the Travelcard price table AND a 16-25 railcard associated with their Oyster card travels to a station outside their Travelcard zone(s), but covered by the railcard discount.

Yours faithfully,
Liam Williams

Within the zones the extension fare is the single fare for the zones not covered by the travelcard. As an example, someone with a zone 1-2 travelcard who travels from Oxford Circus to Woodford (Z4) at peak time would pay the zone 3-4 single fare of £1.70. It can get more complicated if you mix travel with some National Rail lines, but the principle remains the same. If the Oyster card has a railcard discount set then the extension fare is discounted if it is off-peak (or anytime in the case of the disabled railcard).

Extension fares also exist to places outside the zones but covered by Oyster (eg Watford Junction, Gatwick Airport) but they are a lot more complex. You might find my website at www.oyster-rail.org.uk helpful.

Dear Mr Williams

TfL Ref: FOI-1495-1617

Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 31
October 2016.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can
confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

Please could you provide me with the fares charged in the following
situations, as well as details explaining how they were calculated:

1. When a user with a Travelcard listed in the Travelcard price table
travels to a station outside their Travelcard zone(s).

2. When a user with a Travelcard listed in the Travelcard price table AND
a 16-25 railcard associated with their Oyster card travels to a station
outside their Travelcard zone(s), but covered by the railcard discount.

Please find the attached spreadsheet which lists all possible Pay As You
Go (PAYG) Travelcard extension fares, both at full adult rate and with
National Rail (NR) Railcard discount.

By way of an example, for a through journey from East Croydon (zone 5) to
Hatch End (zone 6) – a Z1-6 journey - with a zone 1-2 Travelcard, the
relevant extension fare is through Z3-6 (£3.50 undiscounted Adult Peak –
see attached spreadsheet). The zones of the extension fare reflect the
zones of the journeys not covered by the Travelcard.

Please note:

·         For journeys charged on the TfL fare scale, extension fares are
also charged on the TfL fare scale

·         For journeys charged on the NR fare scale, extension fares are
also charged on the NR fare scale

·         For journeys charged on the TfL/NR through fare scale, extension
fares are generally also charged on the TfL/NR through fare scale (except
in some experimental cases where we have sought to match the extension
fare more closely with the mode(s) for the extension part of the journey).

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would
like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
