Dear Northern Ireland Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment,

Please detail the total costs, the business reason for the travel, how long the travel was for, and the staff member's grade for any travel outside of England in the past 3 years. Please break this down for each trip.

Yours faithfully,

Claire Wood

FOI, Northern Ireland Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment

Dear Mr Cope/Ms Wood,

I am acknowledging receipt of your email received by us on 23 October 2018 requesting information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. As per section 10 of the Act, you can expect a response no later than 20 working days from the date of receipt of your request ie before 19 November 2018.

There may be a fee payable for this information. This will be considered and you will be informed if a fee is payable. In this event the fee must be paid before the information is processed and released. The 20 day time limit for responses is suspended until receipt of the payment. If there is a fee payable we will write to you again to let you know the process in this event.

For your information, the Act defines a number of exemptions which may prevent the release of the information you have requested. We will assess whether any of the exemption categories apply to your request (as per PART 11 of the Act) and if they do, or if there is a delay due to the application of an exemption we will contact you and keep you informed.

I am seeking clarification regarding the information requested in order to estimate the time required to process and if necessary limit the scope of the request in order to comply with the requirements of the Act. I would be grateful if you would clarify the following :

1.Does the 3 year period refer to calendar years or financial years ?
2.The "outside England" reference needs clarified. As CCEA is based in Northern Ireland do you want information on all journeys not involving England (ie journeys within Northern Ireland and those to and within the Republic of Ireland, Wales, Scotland and outside the UK)?
3.Specifically in terms of costs, can you clarify whether the costs you seek relate solely to travel costs or whether they should also include the subsistence costs associated with the journey's ?
4.Specifically in terms of duration, can you clarify exactly what you mean by " how long the travel was for"?

Once I receive clarification on the above points I will ask Finance colleagues to estimate the cost and time requirements needed to comply with your request. If any further assistance on this matter is required, please do not hesitate to contact at [CCEA request email]

It should be noted that I have requested clarification via email on two occasions (29th October 2018 and 6th November 2018) without responses being received to date. If clarification is forthcoming, I will happily reconsider the request in the light of the information received.
