Translink Price per mile per route

The request was partially successful.

Dear Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company,

I would like to make the following FOI request.

Could you please provide me with the cost per mile (Sterling) that a customer pays on each of the individual bus routes you operate, when a customer/passenger purchases a standard single day fare from the driver.

Yours faithfully,

H Millar

FOI, Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company

Dear Mr. Millar,

Further to my earlier brief acknowledgement, I am now in a position to respond more fully to your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

We are unable to provide the information in the form requested as we have fare stages / zones for our bus network. This means a fare can apply to a range of distances. In practice, Ulsterbus has 15 fare stages for the entire network and Metro has 3. The following gives example destinations from Belfast travelling by Ulsterbus and the associated single (Adult) fares.

From Belfast:

£2.20 - Dunmurry
£2.60 - Holywood
£2.90 - Lisburn
£3.40 - Carrickfergus
£3.70 - Hillsborough
£4.20 - Greyabbey
£5.00 - Killyleagh
£5.80 - Lurgan
£6.50 - Portaferry
£7.80 - Castledawson
£9.00 - Armagh
£10.00 - Portrush
£11.50 - Omagh

As far as Metro operations are concerned, they are divided into specific zones, radiating outwards from City Hall:

Inner Zone: one mile approximately
City Zone: four to five miles approximately
Extended Zone: more than five miles

The relevant cash single (Adult) fares for these zones are, respectively £1.40, £1.90 and £2.20.

I trust the foregoing is helpful in dealing with the query which you raised. If you are not satisfied with this response you may request a review by writing to the Translink Director of Human Resources & Organisational Development, who has overall responsibility for Freedom of Information and Data Protection issues within the Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company/Translink organisation. Correspondence should be addressed to the above-mentioned at: Translink, Central Station, East Bridge Street, Belfast BT1 3PB.

If we are then unable to resolve any complaint that you may have, you may refer the matter to the Information Commissioner who will make an independent judgement. The address of the Information Commissioner is: Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF. The address of the Information Commissioner’s Office for Northern Ireland is: 3rd floor, 14 Cromac Place, Gasworks, Belfast, BT7 2JB.

Yours sincerely,
