Translation, Interpretation and language services costs
Dear Argyll and Bute Council,
I wish to make an FOI request. Please provide me with the following information for the financial years 2020/2021, 2021/22, 2022/23:
The amount spent by the council on translation, interpretation and language services in all areas of council competence, including:
Primary and secondary schools;
adult social care services and child social care services;
the provision of any social housing for which it has responsibility;
libraries;
recycling and waste collection;
transport;
and other area in which such expenditure has been made.
If, for whatever reason, you are unable to provide the information for a certain facet of your operations please highlight which information cannot be disclosed and continue to disclose the rest of the information.

online courses and translation services for support with learning Gaelic.

Live Argyll
The Libraries don’t use any translation, interpretation or language
services. We would use free online apps or google translate, otherwise we
would signpost to the Third Sector Interface or Argyll College or
community learning.

There were service charges for the Roads department for the research and
provision of Gaelic road names for road signs.

Commercial Services
Property Services only required one translation within the timeframe and
that was done free of charge.
Helensburgh Waterfront Development - There was bilingual signage, internal
and external, but as that was procured as a single works package we do not
hold a breakdown of the costs associated with the translation from English
to Gaelic as it was included in the overall cost.
Customer Support Services
We funded online accessibility services called Reachdeck and Browsealoud.
The service reads text to the sight impaired and that has a translator
embedded in it as part of wider accessibility functions such as reading
text aloud and magnifying text. We funded the Browsealoud Service in
2020/21 and 2021/22 and the Reachdeck service in 2022/23. The costs are as
follows:-

At present we are waiting on a response from our Education Department, and
