Training on sexual violence.

The request was successful.

Dear University College London,

I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, to request the following information:

1. Does your university currently deliver training on sexual violence to staff and/or students?

If YES:
• Is this training mandatory?
• Who is invited to attend the training?
• How is the training delivered (e.g. online, in-person seminar, workshop, etc)?
• What is the completion rate of the training?

If NO:

• Has there been any training offered in the past?
• Is any training planned for the future?

If it is not possible to provide the information that has been requested, due to the information exceeding the cost of the compliance limits that are identified in Section 12, please provide advice, under your Section 16 obligations, as to how I may be able to refine my request to meet the requirements of the Act.

I look forward to your response within 20 working days, as specified by the Act.

Yours Faithfully,

Megan Fouracre

Dear Megan,

Thank you for your enquiry which has been handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I can confirm that UCL holds information relevant to your request and we are pleased to be able to provide this information to you. Please see below for answers to your questions.

1. Does your university currently deliver training on sexual violence to staff and/or students? Yes

If YES:
• Is this training mandatory?
Yes, for some staff members in core front-line services such as Wardens and Vice-Wardens
• Who is invited to attend the training?
Staff and students across UCL are welcome to attend such training. Further details are provided below
• How is the training delivered (e.g. online, in-person seminar, workshop, etc)?
UCL has a service agreement with Rape Crisis. An outreach worker from this organisation works on our campus with Student Support and Wellbeing to provide training for staff via workshops, information sessions for staff and students and one to one advice for students affected by sexual violence. Rape Crisis also reviews and helps to inform our materials and communications for students.

Staff can register for these workshops at: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/hr/UCLTrainingBook...

UCL’s student union operate a ‘Zero Tolerance to Sexual Harrassment’ scheme by which the union works with departments across UCL to organise workshops and training for both students and staff members. Further information on their work is available at: http://uclu.org/sexualharassment

We also run a Consent session for any under 18 living in student residences. This was introduced in September 2016 as part of our updated safeguarding protocols to provide a mandatory induction session for students under the age of 18. Please see attached for a copy of this programme.

• What is the completion rate of the training?
Completion rates are not currently recorded but may be available in the future following the implementation of more formal training as specified above.

Further information on support services provided by UCL for students and staff is available at:
