Dear G Harrison
Re: Freedom of Information Request
Thank you for your email of 12 October 2018. You made the following requests for
information:
On your website, under your FOI disclosure section:
https://www.cafcass.gov.uk/about-cafcass/transparency-information/freedom-of-
information/2017-disclosure-log/
under "Other policy and training requests" you provide a link which you've titled
"Cafcass training in dealing with “parental alienation". This link links to a PDF
response dated 25th January 2017 and referenced by you as Gov/CAF 16-59. In this
response you say:
"Cafcass has a training module on ‘Expertise in intervention with families to reduce
impact of high conflict on children’, which explores the risk to contact and the key
elements in high conflict contact disputes and the impact on children and a range of
resources are available to staff to inform their assessments"
1. Please provide a copy of this training module: "Expertise in intervention with
families to reduce impact of high conflict on children". I am happy to receive a copy of
this training module in whatever format is easiest for you to supply. This includes
original storyboards, final elearning modules, PDFs, PPTs etc
Cafcass does not have a training module titled ‘Expertise in intervention with families
to reduce impact of high conflict on children’. This training (which was referenced by
Cafcass in a response to a previous FOI request CAF16-159) was actually in
development at the time of the response and subsequently became the Cafcass
Positive Parenting Programme (CPPP), which is currently being piloted.

The CPPP is a 12-week programme for families which provides structured sessions
to parents in family proceedings which involve medium to high conflict. It aims to
promote positive change, improve communication between parents and reduce the
emotional harm experienced by the child. It encourages parents to place themselves
in their children’s shoes so they can understand the impact of their behaviour. We
use restorative practice principles to help the child recover with the support, where
possible, of both parents. Please see our
website for more information about the
programme. Please also find attached the training PowerPoint for the CPPP.
In addition, the Child Impact Assessment Framework (CIAF) training launched in
October 2018 and is aimed at all Cafcass practice staff – information on this is
available on the Cafca
ss website.
2. Please provide the date on which this training module was first made available to
your employees
As per our response to question one of your request, Cafcass has not run training
entitled ‘Expertise in intervention with families to reduce impact of high conflict on
children’ However, the CPPP pilot commenced in June 2017 and is still ongoing.
3. Please provide the numbers of your employees who completed this training in the
years 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 preferably broken down by service area
As above, Cafcass have not delivered ‘Expertise in intervention with families to
reduce impact of high conflict on children’ training. The CPPP training is in its pilot
stage and is still underway and complete data on numbers of employees who have
received this training is not yet available.
4. Please confirm whether this training module is still available to your employees, or
if it is no longer available, the date on which it was withdrawn.
As mentioned above, whilst Cafcass does not have and has not had any training
entitled ‘Expertise in intervention with families to reduce impact of high conflict on
children’ the CPPP and training on it for staff is ongoing.
5. If this training module has been withdrawn please provide details of any
replacement training modules, the dates on which they were made available, and the
corresponding numbers of employees who have completed those replacement
modules, broken down by year and service area
Please see the answer to question four.
