Dear Ministry of Defence,

Can you please tell me what proportion of a) Junior Soldiers, and b) other soldiers, were physically injured during Phase 1 or 2 training in each of the last three years, and what proportion of these injuries led to a medical discharge?

Thanks very much

Yours faithfully,

David Gee

Dear Def Strat-Stat-Health-PQ-FOI (MULTIUSER),

Ok, thank you for letting me know.

From the links you sent, it seems that you have information on the ages at which soldiers were medically discharged, and the medical reason in each case, and it seems that this information is stored in the same database. Therefore, could you please tell me:

How many, and what proportion of, medical discharges from the army were due to musculoskeletal disorders/injuries of personnel in each of these two age groups: a) aged under 18; b) aged 18 and above.

As implied, I am trying to see whether the risk differs by age.

This query is different from the original one, because the denominator is medically discharged personnel, rather than all personnel, and so I assume it will be simpler to answer.

Thank you in advance,

David Gee
