Training around human trafficking for *NON-CLINICAL FRONT-FACING* staff

Ruth Atkinson made this Freedom of Information request to West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust,

• Is there training provided to NON-CLINICAL FRONT-FACING staff about human trafficking and modern slavery in your Trust?
• If training is delivered in your Trust, which staff receive or are eligible to receive this training? Is the training compulsory and how is attendance / completion measured? What format does this training take (e.g. e-learning, face-to-face, etc.)? How long does the training take to complete?
• If there is no training in your Trust, is human trafficking incorporated into a safeguarding training programme or policy? If it is part of a safeguarding programme, does that programme also include a section on the Prevent policy?
• For either stand-alone training or training which is incorporated into a safeguarding programme or policy (please specify which): Are staff trained in potential clinical indicators for human trafficking victims? Are staff trained in who to refer a potential human trafficking case to? Are staff trained on the questions to ask to ascertain whether a patient is a victim of human trafficking? How often is the training completed?

Yours faithfully,

Ruth Atkinson

Good Morning Ruth

Thank you for your recent request for information.

I can confirm that non-clinical front facing staff do have training relating to human trafficking and modern slavery this is in the form of a Mandatory Training Workbook. This workbook is issued to all staff both clinical and non-clinical, completions are recorded via Oracle Learning Management (OLM) system once each line manager has reviewed and signed off at staffs yearly Performance Development Review (PDR).

Human Trafficking is also incorporated into the Safeguarding programme which includes Health wrap PREVENT, this is delivered to new clinical staff through their foundation programme/Induction and yearly via the aforementioned Mandatory Workbook. These two elements are also covered every two years as part of the Mandatory Update which clinical staff must attend. Again attendance is logged via OLM and will be discussed at their PDR for documenting. Training covers potential clinical indicators for human trafficking victims, behaviours and signs and appropriate questioning.

Should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best Wishes,

Vicky

Is this true for non-clinical front-facing staff too? My request was for information on non-clinical front-facing staff only. Please confirm. Thank you for your assistance.

Yours sincerely,

Ruth Atkinson

Good Morning Ruth,

Safeguarding programme and Health Wrap PREVENT is only delivered to Clinical Staff. Non-Clinical Staff have a mandatory obligation to complete their workbook, which covers human trafficking and modern slavery.

Apologies for any confusion,

Vicky

Dear Vicky,

Thank you for getting back to me. So, does that workbook include:

1. the Prevent strategy
2. clinical indicators of trafficked people
3. appropriate referral mechanisms for trafficked people
4. appropriate questions to ask trafficked people?

Yours sincerely,

Ruth Atkinson
