Dear Children's Hearings Scotland,

Can you supply all the academic material required to be learned by a panel member-minus online training if this will prove hard to supply?

Also in the last recruitment drive how many applicants were there? How many rejected- if at all reason? How many applicants accepted were from the LGBT community?

Yours faithfully,

John Brown

Children's Hearings Scotland

Dear Mr Brown,

Thank you for your email which we received on 3rd March 2020. You have requested the following information from CHS:

1. All the academic material required to be learnt by a panel member- minus online training if this will prove hard to supply
2. How many applicants were there in the last recruitment drive?
3. How many rejected- if at all reason?
4. How many applicants accepted were from the LGBT community?

In line with the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, we will respond within 20 working days from receipt of your request and no later than 2nd March 2020.

At point 3, you have asked for ‘How many [applicants from the last recruitment drive] rejected- if at all reason?’.

This could mean:

A) Number of applicants rejected, and reasons that CHS may reject applicants
B) Number of applicants rejected and the reason that number of applicants were rejected
C) Number of applicants rejected and the reason for each rejection

Please let us know which you mean.

I believe we previously received a FOISA request from you on 21st January 2020 which we will be responding to in due course. Where there is overlap in the information you have asked for we will direct you to anything already released in response to your first request. If you did not make this request please let us know.

Kind regards,
Sophie-Elise

Dear Children's Hearings Scotland,

Regarding question 3- B option as I feel C would be too much work for your department.
Thanks

Dear Mr Brown,

Thank you for submitting a request for information regarding training
materials and volunteer recruitment. This request has been processed in
line with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act
2002 (FOISA). An application for information held by public authorities
under section 1 of FOISA requires that a public authority release all
information held subject to any applicable exemptions. Please see our
response below, made within the allotted timescales.

Response

1. All the academic material required to be learnt by a panel member-
minus online training if this will prove hard to supply.

We have previously released all training requirements for new panel
members in response to a previous FOISA. These can be found at this link:
[1]https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/l....
Panel members who have completed their training also have access to all
courses produced by the Learning Academy, which are reviewed and updated
on an annual basis. Please find the prospectus for 2020 attached.

2. How many applicants were there in the last recruitment drive?

There were 1419 total applications completed in CHS’s 2019 volunteer
recruitment campaign.

3-B. (clarified request) The number of applicants rejected and the reason
that number of applicants were rejected.

942 applicants were not recommended for confirmation as trainees in the
2019 recruitment period. This number of applicants was not progressed as
CHS has a limited amount of spaces for new panel members, with areas
assessing the numbers they need prior to recruitment. In the recruitment
period of 2019 we had three times the number of applications to panel
members required. A large number of applicants also self-select out, or
are deemed to not have met the criteria used at different stages of the
recruitment process.

4. How many applicants accepted were from the LGBT community?

This information is not held. All our statistical information on
applications from members of the LGBT community in the 2019 recruitment
campaign are available from a previous FOISA request at the link:
