Training about Human Trafficking for non-clinical front-facing staff

Ruth Atkinson made this Freedom of Information request to Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust,

• Is there training provided to non-clinical, front-facing staff about human trafficking and modern slavery in your Trust?
• If training is delivered in your Trust, which staff receive or are eligible to receive this training? Is the training compulsory and how is attendance / completion measured? What format does this training take (e.g. e-learning, face-to-face, etc.)? How long does the training take to complete?
• If there is no training in your Trust, is human trafficking incorporated into a safeguarding training programme or policy? If it is part of a safeguarding programme, does that programme also include a section on the Prevent policy?
• For either stand-alone training or training which is incorporated into a safeguarding programme or policy (please specify which): Are staff trained in potential clinical indicators for human trafficking victims? Are staff trained in who to refer a potential human trafficking case to? Are staff trained on the questions to ask to ascertain whether a patient is a victim of human trafficking? How often is the training completed?

Yours faithfully,

Ruth Atkinson

Dear Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust,

Thank you very much for your response. I would just like to clarify a few things. I assume that safeguarding is mandatory for all staff. But are the other forms of training you mentioned mandatory? And if so, are non-clinical front-facing staff obliged to attend?

Thank you for your assistance.

Yours faithfully,

Ruth Atkinson

Dear Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust,

Can I confirm for the training on human trafficking that that *non-clinical front-facing* staff receive in safeguarding:

- how long does such training take?
- what format does such training take?
- how often does such training take place?

Yours faithfully,

Ruth Atkinson

FOI Requests, Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust

Dear Sir/Ma,

Thank you for your FOI request for further information.

I am unsure of what your question is.

Please can you clarify what you mean by

"Can I confirm for the training on human trafficking that that *non-clinical front-facing* staff receive in safeguarding:"

- how long does such training take?
- what format does such training take?
- how often does such training take place?"

Many Thanks

Yours sincerely

Dear FOI Requests,

In response to previous FOI requests, your trust stated that the only training around human trafficking that you deliver to *non-clinical front-facing* staff (e.g. receptionists) is as part of your safeguarding training. Since that is the case, I would like to know a bit more about what that training entails (as per my original request):

1. what format is the training? (e.g.: face-to-face / elearning)
2. how long does the training take? (e.g.: 10 mins, 30 mins)
3. how often do staff receive such training? (e.g. on induction and then three-yearly)
4. are staff trained on potential physical indicators for human trafficking victims? (e.g. headaches, back ache, mental illness)
5. are staff trained on referral mechanisms? (e.g. the national referral mechanism)
6. are staff trained on potential questions to ask (e.g. are you allowed to leave your home as you please? do you work long hours?)

That's six questions. Please answer them in reference to training around human trafficking for *non-clinical front-facing* staff only. I hope my request is clearer now. If not, get let me know what is unclear and I will try to explain. Thank you for your assistance.

Yours sincerely,

Ruth Atkinson
