My FOI request relates to how many Trafford Councillors are currently claiming the "single person allowance" or other schemes to reduce their council tax bill amount (Police specials etc..)
In addition to the total number, the name of the councillor would also be appreciated.

The information you have requested is exempt from disclosure under Section 40 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Personal Data. This exemption allows the withholding of personal data if the data protection principles would be breached by its disclosure. Data protection principle 1 requires that personal data is processed lawfully and fairly. In order to be `lawful' a condition must be met from schedule 2 of the Data Protection Act 1998 and although your request evidences a legitimate interest in requesting the data, this request cannot be fulfilled without prejudice to the individuals rights and freedoms, in particular their right to privacy and hence a condition in schedule 2 cannot be met. Consequently, as Principle 1 of the Data Protection Act 1998 cannot be met, the exemption under Freedom of Information Act 2000 is engaged.
If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review.
