Traffic impact of Hammersmith bridge closure

The request was partially successful.

Andrew Williams

Dear Transport for London,

I'd like to make a freedom of information request of the traffic volume impact and journey time changes since the closure of Hammersmith bridge. I'd specifically like to know the change in numbers between Barnes High St, Mortlake High St and Lower Richmond Rd to Chalker's Corner.

I'd also like to know the change in journey times, especially between the hours of 6am and 8pm, for west bound traffic on the roads mentioned above.

Finally, I'd like to know what air monitoring you're doing since the closure in Sheen and Mortlake, especially on the specific roads mentions above.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew

Dear Mr Williams

Our Ref:         FOI-3764-1920

Thank you for your request received on 4 March 2020 asking for information
about the impact of the Hammersmith Bridge closure on traffic and journey
times.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access
policy. I can confirm we hold some information relevant to your enquiry.

Hammersmith Bridge is closed to motor traffic until major safety-critical
strengthening work is completed. The bridge remains open for walking and
cycling. We are working to manage, as far as is possible, the impact that
the closure of Hammersmith Bridge is having on the road network. We have
made changes to traffic signal timings in the area to help the flow of
traffic and will continue to monitor the situation to determine whether
further changes are required. We have also changed the local bus network
to provide new public transport options for people affected by the
closure, and has launched a local enhanced Dial-a-Ride service for those
people who are unable to walk or unable to cross the bridge. The closure
will last until major refurbishment works to the 132-year-old bridge are
complete. We are working with the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham
to confirm the final plan for this work as soon as possible.

Please find attached the traffic count data we hold that is relevant to
the roads you have specifically asked about. Please note we do not hold
information on many of the roads that are owned and maintained by the
London Boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham and Richmond and you may
therefore wish to contact them directly.

Information on air quality in the area can be accessed using the following
websites.

[1]www.londonair.org.uk

[2]www.breathelondon.org

[3]www.airqualityengland.co.uk

We are not actively adding any monitors of our own however our
environmental specialists are reviewing the data.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for some reason, please feel free to contact me.

Please note, the Government has announced a series of measures to tackle
the Coronavirus. It is essential for London, and in particular for all
critical workers, that we continue to provide a safe transport network
that enables them to make the journeys they need to.

In current circumstances, we are not able to answer requests readily and
we ask that you please do not make a request to us at present.

Answering requests will require the use of limited resources and the
attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. In
any event, please note that our response time will be affected by the
current situation.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal.

Yours sincerely

Andrew Williams

Dear FOI,
This is not the information I asked for. I wanted the traffic counts on Mortlake High St and Lower Richmond Rd. Not Mortlake Rd or Upper Richmond Rd. These are totally different roads and more importantly, these roads have been gridlocked for 7 hours each day since the closure.
Yours sincerely,

Andrew Williams
