I refer to your request for information, which was received on 5th May,
2020 and has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

The specific information you requested was as follows:

How many complaints did your trading standards department receive in April
2020?

We received 122 complaints during the April 2020 period.

Can you provide a breakdown of what these complaints related to? If this
information is unavailable, can you provide what the three most-complained
about issues are?

The complaints we received during the April 2020 period include the
following:

-           Scams

-           ‘Price gouging’ – the raising of prices to a level much higher
than is considered reasonable

-           Consumer contractual disputes – some specifically in relation
to the cancellation of contracts due to Covid-19.

-           Allegations of noncompliance with business closure
regulations.

How many trading enforcement actions against businesses did you carry out
in April 2020? Can you provide a breakdown of what these enforcements
related to?

8 warnings were issued in relation to allegations of ‘price gouging’.

Licensing

How many complaints have you received about licensed premises in April
2020?

We received 21 complaints concerning licensed premised during the April
2020 period.

Can you provide a breakdown of these complaints or - if unavailable -
provide some examples of the type of issues raised?

Allegations of noncompliance with business closure regulations.

Can you provide any figures for enforcement actions - and break these down
by warnings, fines, prosecutions etc?

A total of 67 enforcement visits were made to licensed premises during the
April 2020 period
