Request:

Can you tell me if all bin lorries have trackers and cameras on them? If
so, how long do they keep the information from the cameras and trackers?

Our response:

All vehicles owned by the council’s contractor – Serco - including refuse
collection vehicles, road sweepers and street collection vehicles are
fitted with a tracker.  Furthermore, all refuse collection vehicles owned
by Serco are fitted with CCTV. Please note there are a number of hired
refuse collection vehicles and vans on the Serco contract which do not
have tracker fitted or CCTV.

The CCTV on refuse vehicles is held for up to 28 days depending on how
many hours the vehicle has worked, and the footage can be downloaded in 10
minutes sections but you would need to know the vehicle registration, date
& time in order to do this.
