Dear Mr Jackson,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request. The answers to your questions are as follows:

1) How many Subject Access Requests did you receive in the year Jan 1st 2016 to Dec 31st 2016 (or your equivalent business/financial year), and;
Our Data Protection colleagues received 139 Subject Access Requests from 1st April 2016 to 31st March 2017 (they record this information by financial year).

2) How many FOI Section 40(1) exemptions did you employ during this same time period?
We have not used Section 40(1); this is because if we were to receive a Subject Access Request in error, we would just forward it to our Data Protection colleagues for their attention, and would not record it on our systems as an FOI request then apply Section 40(1). We do, however, use Section 40(2) when we need to withhold other people's personal information that appears within information being requested. In the 2016 calendar year we applied Section 40(2) in 13 FOI requests.

If you are not completely satisfied with our response, please contact us again, or write to the complaints officer at: Dorset County Council, County Hall, Colliton Park, Dorchester, Dorset DT1 1XJ. Or you can follow the complaints procedure on our website that can be found here; https://www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/article/.... If your appeal is not resolved to your satisfaction, you have the right to apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision.

Yours sincerely,
