Dear Mr. Patel

RE:  YOUR REQUEST 07410 UNDER THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000

We have considered your request which was regarding pupils with SEN and
looked after children.  I now enclose the following information:

All of the foregoing information is based on the 2012 SEN Census return to
the Department of Education in January 2012.  The information is based on
the 2011 statistics.

  - How many pupils are statemented with SEN in both primary and
   secondary education?

Aged 5-10, 2034 children in 2010, 2023 in 2011.

Aged 11-15, 2708 children in 2010, 2673 in 2011.

 - How many children are looked after or in care within the primary
  and secondary education age range.

180 Primary children currently in care (as of 27 February 2012)

298 Secondary currently in care (as of 27 February 2012)

- How many pupils were placed in alternative education provision in
  2010/2011 and 2011/2012?

(Including hospital schools) 9 children in 2010 and 7 in 2011

- How many pupils with SEN attend mainstream schools across both
  primary and secodnary age ranges?

In 2010, 2774 children with Statements of SEN attended Surrey mainstream
schools (including resource provision and SEN units)

In 2011, 2696 children with Statements of SEN attended Surrey mainstream
schools (including resource provision and SEN units)

 - How much funding was allocated to pupils with SEN for education
  in 2010/2011 and 2011/2012?

 - How much funding was allocated to children in care for education
  in 2010/2011 and 2011/2012?

The funding allocation for SEN Services (centrally held) has remained
stable for 2011 and 2012.  The figure below does not include funding
allocated directly to Surrey maintained schools.

81 million allocation for school action plus and statemented children,
including transportation, therapy provision and school placements.

Funding specifically for children in care 2010/11 - Personal Education
Allowance totalled £78k

Funding specifically for children in care 2011/12 - Pupil Premium funding
totalled £206k
