Dear Mr Kearney

TfL Ref: FOI-1506-1112

Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 27
January 2012 asking for information about Metropolitan Police officers
funded by TfL.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and TfL’s information access policy. I can
confirm TfL does hold the information you require. You asked for:

1. The total number of officers (including Community Support Officers) and
which specific units of the Metropolitan Police are funded entirely or
partially by TfL.

1,610 Metropolitan Police officer posts (including Community Support
Officers) are currently funded by TfL. These are located in the following
MPS units:

·         Territorial Policing (Safer Transport Command) – TfL funds 1,578
officers and the overall establishment of the Command is 1,843 officers

·         Traffic Operational Command Unit (C015) – 29 officers

·         Traffic Criminal Justice Unit (CO16) – 3 officers

2. Please provide me with the annual amount, starting in 2005 to the
present, of funds the Metropolitan Police received from TfL for the
provision of these officers.

The total annual funding and associated costs for these officers,
including the full year forecast figure for 2011/12, is shown in the table
below. It should be noted that the number of TfL funded officers has also
grown during this period and therefore the annual costs are based on
different officer figures from year to year.
