Dear Ms Fell,

This is in response to your enquiry about the number of children within the
St Helens area and also how many were the subject of a CP plan at the end
of March 2009 by plan category.

The latest ONS mid year population estimates for all children, aged 0 to 17
in the St Helens area is 38,677.

St Helens had 119 children subject to a CP plan at the end of March 2009.

You mention in your request CP plan, category B as per CPR3? The CPR3 is
the statutory return that all local authorities are required to submit at
the end of each financial year on referral, assessment and child protection
numbers. There is a Part B of that return that looks specifically at child
protection plans. Table 1. within Part B shows a brreakdown of the number
of children on CP plans at Mar 2009 by category of abuse. Is this the
information you require, i.e how many children were on plans broken down by
category of abuse? If so I can send those figures to you.

You may also find it useful to know that this type of information has
recently been published by the DCSF and the published tables show figures
at local authority level, including the information that you seem to
require. Here is the link to the DCSF website where you can download
various tables on this type of information. Sheet 10b contains figures for
all LAs on CP plans by category at the following link:

However, if you just need the numbers by category on plans at the end of
March 2009 for St Helens, then I can provide you with that table.
