the information you require.

 

To enable us to assist with your request, please provide a more detailed
description of the information you’re seeking together with any other
details you think might help us locate the information you require. For
example, could you please specify exactly what is meant by ‘public
relations’ in order for us to quantify an expenditure. Additionally, are
you referring to the organisation as a whole or just a specific department
of TfL.

 

The Freedom of Information Act allows you to request recorded information
held by Transport for London. There are limits on the time that we are
required to spend determining whether we hold the information you are
requesting and the time spent locating, retrieving and extracting it.
Therefore you should identify the information that you want as clearly and

Expenditure on Marketing & Communications for the period 2006/7-2014/15."
I apologise for the delay in my response.

 

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can
confirm we do hold the information you require.

 

Please find in the table below a breakdown by financial year of TfL’s
marketing and communications spend for the period 2006/7-2014/15

 

This expenditure is used for the following purposes:

 

§  The provision of detailed information to help our customers use our
services and to assist with wayfinding, specifically:

o   Tube maps (poster and pocket versions), train information such as car
line diagrams that show the route, information to support the Tube and
rail weekend and longer term engineering works programme, signage for
works and closures, Bus stop information – maps, service change
information, events information affecting the bus stop cycling and river
guides

o   emails to our customer database providing travel information on buses,
the Tube, cycling, rail and river services, Dial a Ride, Victoria Coach
station and taxi and private hire services

o   giving customer information for major events which could disrupt
London’s roads and public transport.

o   Information for those with accessibility needs

 

o   Customer information campaigns supporting a wide range of transport
services and related activities, including essential safety, security and
ticketing messages:

 

§  explaining our fares and ticketing to enable our customers to get the
best value out of Oyster and contactless payment cards

+ Road safety campaigns and encouraging safer travel and courtesy

§  The Road Modernisation Plan and the improvements being made to key
junctions, cycling infrastructure, the maintenance of essential roads,
bridges and tunnels

§  customer information about where the road works are taking place to
help people manage their journeys and how to avoid unnecessary fines

+ The provision of new information services such as Twitter and
real time information across our services
+ supporting cycling initiatives and new cycling infrastructure
improvements including education on the new road layouts.
+ helping drivers understand how schemes such as the Congestion
Charge work
+ customer information for major events such as Prudential Ride
London and the London Marathon

o   Information campaigns raising awareness of public consultations
undertaken by TfL

 

 

In the period April 2013-March 2015 there has been a downward trend in
spend with a 38 percent reduction compared to 2006/7. The increase in
2012/13 was due to the provision of additional customer information for
the London 2012 Olympic Games
