Tony Redmond - Tour of Australia
Dear Local Government Ombudsmen,
What was the position, or job title, of the person who authorised and cleared the payments that enabled Chairman Tony Redmond to comprehensively tour Australia at no cost to himself in 2005?
Yours faithfully,
Jo Meeks

I'm interested to see if there is one rule for Local Government administration, and another one for the Commission for Local Government Administration! Where audit trails are concerned.
Dear Ms Meeks
I attach a letter in response to your request below.
Yours sincerely

His colleagues authorised the trip? I wonder if he returned the favour and authorised a trip for them at another time? Why no independent scrutiny?

Tony Redmond is the Chairman of the Commission for Local Administration in England whoever it was effectively worked for him. Would you say no to your boss if he told you to put his expenses claim through?
He only claimed for an all expenses trip to Australia and back at taxpayers expense after all. It's not as if he claimed for a duck house, a couple of porn films or a Kit Kat. :)
