To be provided with details of total cost to the GMC of an Independent review of GMC Customer Complaints Handling. Sep 2017.

The request was successful.

Duncan Lawrence Long

Dear General Medical Council,
Could you please provide me with the total cost to the GMC of instructing VERITAS to produce an independent review of the GMC customer complaints handling in the form of an annual report provided in September 2017 and covering the period 1st July 2016- 30th June 2017.
Also, could you explain what conflict of interest test was applied to VERITAS prior to it being given the go-ahead to produce this report?
Lastly, could the GMC confirm if a further report covering the period 2018-2019 has been commissioned and if so will it again be produced by VERITAS and published in September 2020?

Yours faithfully,

Duncan Lawrence Long

Dear Mr Long

Our ref: IR1-2674280522

Thank you for your request of 20 April, which we've considered under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Firstly I should clarify that the company who produced the review published in 2017 was Verita, not VERITAS which is a different organisation.

The GMC's total spend on this review was £47,419.70.

Verita tendered for this work; in the bidding process we ask for the following declaration:

1. Any potential, actual or perceived conflicts of interest must be identified in writing during the tender process.
2. Companies should outline the safeguards that would be put in place to mitigate the risk of actual or perceived conflicts arising during the delivery of these services.

On award of the contract Verita signed up to a standard contract clause that obliged them to notify the GMC if a conflict of interest were to arise in respect of its staff.

A report for the period 2018-19 has not been commissioned.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you have any further queries.

Kind regards
