This request has been withdrawn by the person who made it. There may be an explanation in the correspondence below.

Dear Sir or Madam,
My computer is being held at Netley Forensics for examination and has been there for 9 weeks but has not yet been examined , how long can they hold a computer before they examine it or return it.

I suspect this request will either be passed on to the police force or they will suggest the user makes a request directly to the force, which they can do via:

http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/body/hamps...

Section 22 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act states: "anything which has been seized by a constable ... may be retained so long as is necessary in all the circumstances."

http://www.statutelaw.gov.uk/legResults....

This appears to me to be a very vague law with potential for abuse.

Hampshire Police Authority

Dear Sir or Madam,

As stated in your reply to me "Hampshire Police Authority is an independent authority responsible for securing an efficient and effective police service for Hampshire and the Isle if Wight"

With the above in mind, and at your next meeting with Hampshire Constabulary would you ask why their electronics forensics centre at Netley does in some cases hold on to seized electronic equipment for many weeks and at times many monthes before the said equipment is examined they operate a continual triage system that always deals with what are in their opinion "Serious cases " first this is regardless of when they receive in the equipment this practice is very unfair especially as much of the seized equipment is owned by people who are later found to be not guilty of any crime I have sent a freedom of information request to Hampshire Constabulary but I feel that you should also raise the question as well, this would show that you are indeed effective.
Regards Steven Say.
