Tier 4 sponsor licence

James Field made this Freedom of Information request to University of Leeds

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear University of Leeds,

Please can you could you state whether, since being granted a Tier
4 sponsor licence, you have been visited by UK Visas & Immigration
(and before that, the UK Border Agency) for the purpose of
assessing your institution's compliance with the sponsor licence.

If the answer is yes, please could you state whether the assessment
included direct investigation of the practical application of
admissions policy (i.e., looking at an actual sample of individual
applications already approved for a Tier 4 visa by your
institution) or whether only a general appraisal of policy
relating to the sponsor licence was carried out, without direct
investigation of its practical application.

Yours faithfully,

James Field

Tracey Crombie,

Jenny Foggin,

Dear Mr Field,

The University has been visited by the (then) UK Border Agency for the purpose of assessing our institution’s compliance with the sponsor licence.

The assessment included direct investigation of the practical application of admissions policy (ie, looking at an actual sample of individual applications already approved for our sponsorship under Tier 4). Your query references ‘applications already approved for a Tier 4 visa by your institution.’ The University does not approve visas. We offer sponsorship under Tier 4 in the form of CAS; the immigration decision (approval or otherwise of a visa) is made by UK Visas and Immigration (formerly UKBA).

I hope this is helpful in resolving your query. If you have any questions about this email, however, please don't hesitate to contact me.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our decision, you should write to or email directly Mr D Wardle, The University Complaints Officer, The University of Leeds, Leeds, LS2 9JT ([email address]). Further information about how the University manages Freedom of Information requests and about our complaints procedure is also available on our website (www.leeds.ac.uk).

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the review/complaints procedure provided by the University. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Best wishes,

Jenny

Dear Jenny,

Thank you very much for getting back to me, and for clarifying my wooly phrasing. I was indeed referring to your role as a sponsor. If I could trouble you for one more piece of information, I'd be very grateful to know when the last visit took place - the month and year.

Thanks again,

best wishes.

James Field

Jenny Foggin,

I'll certainly check for you - I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Best wishes,

Jenny
